The bail hearing in the R260-million SASSA fraud case has been rolled over to Wednesday at the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court. It’s alleged that the 11th accused created fake profiles and committed identity fraud in order to withdraw funds from SASSA pay points. Of the 11 accused, eight are SASSA employees and they face over 1 000 counts, including fraud, theft and cybercrime.

Nkoana has been testifying at the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry into the Usindiso building fire which claimed 76 lives and displaced others in 2023. The inquiry has adjourned until Monday morning.

National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola says South Africa is facing a serious challenge when it comes to transnational organised crime. He says he hopes the development of a strategic plan to curb such crimes will be successful. Some of the crimes include drug trafficking, illicit cigarette trade and theft of high-performance vehicles that are taken over the border into neighbouring countries.
