KARACHI: National Command Authority (NCA) Adviser retired Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmed Kidwai has stressed the need for preserving and strengthening the country’s nuclear capability. Speaking at a seminar here on Saturday, he said when the former USSR collapsed, Ukraine gave up almost 2,000 nuclear weapons and the consequences are there for everyone to see.

The transformation of Karachi from a quaint little littoral town to a bustling metropolis after independence was the subject of an exhibition that opened on Wednesday evening. Titled From Borders to Belongings: Karachi’s Journey through Migration, organised by The Dawood Foundation (TDF), the exhibition drew a number of people on its opening day at TDF Ghar. The bulk of the information is provided through posters, documentaries, artefacts.

The 17th International Urdu Conference will be held from December 5 to December 8 in the metropolis and the event is going to celebrate the city of Karachi. This was announced by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi President Ahmed Shah at a press conference on Monday evening. Shah said recently the council held the world’s longest-running international festival (for 38 days). Before that, there used to be travel advisories for Pakistan but the festival changed that perception about the country.

In 2023, the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi held an International Theatre Festival in which, apart from Pakistani artists, theatre groups from 44 countries took part. It was a successful venture. This year, the council’s president, Ahmed Shah, aimed for the stars and did not confine the event to the realm of theatre alone. He turned it into a cultural extravaganza, as a result of which the first World Culture Festival (WCF) was organised from September 26 to November 2.
