Loco Taco opened on Forest Avenue in Portland Tuesday, the newest restaurant from Ahmed Abbas and his extended family. The restaurant specializes in fusion tacos in surprising combinations, such as chicken tikka masala taco, Greek doner lamb or beef taco, falafel taco and crispy Cajun chicken taco. When young marrieds Pamela Higgins and her husband bought their home in Baltimore County, Maryland, the small galley kitchen came with a 1951 Chambers stove. Rick Fournier took over after his father died in 2005, continuing to make doughnuts in classic flavors like chocolate glazed, honey dipped, jelly, cinnamon sugar and molasses, as well as old-fashioned pastries such as cream horns and turnovers.

The Portland Farmers’ Market is scheduled to return outdoors to Deering Oak Park on Saturday. Through the winter, as usual, it has been operating inside the Stevens Square Community Center. The outdoor season runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Nov. 26. Market hours on both days are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (but for wildly popular items like the season’s first asparagus, strawberries and tomatoes, the early bird definitely gets the worm).
