4. Discussion 4.1. Quasi-Steady-State Upward Flow of Soil Water under Hyper-Arid ClimateAlthough the climate is extremely arid in the study area, the soil layers below a depth of 0.5 m still maintain abundant soil water (Figure 4). The occurrence of high SWC in the soil layer under the hyper-arid climate was mainly due to the weak soil evaporation, while the water consumption by the tamarisk in this area was mainly from groundwater [44].
