To say that Milan Design Week is just about furniture is like saying that fashion is just about jeans and shirts. There is so much creativity that goes into every aspect of the festival and one of the ways this manifests is in installations, large and small (but preferably large). I especially enjoyed those installations that engaged with the senses, and those that progressed the discussion around sustainability.

This fully accessible, energy-efficient beach house on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne, was designed for a couple and their grown-up children and partners. The owners appointed architecture studio Kennedy Nolan to design a replacement for the dilapidated house they had used as a weekender for decades.

When Dutch designer Ruben de la Rive Box and Australian designer Golnar Roshan first met, they were living in Amsterdam and in their early careers after graduating, Ruben from the University of the Arts Utrecht in the Netherlands and Golnar from the University of Technology Sydney. A year later, they both moved to London and worked at different high-profile design studios before deciding to start their own practice together – Rive Roshan.
