A young woman who attacked a police officer, leaving her concussed, has been sentenced to six months behind bars. But Monica Goch was allowed to leave the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on bail while she waits to appeal. Celebrating her 20th birthday, Goch drank 20 shots before she assaulted Senior Sergeant Victoria Fields. Fields suffered a concussion and shoulder injury.

After two-and-a-half years, living hundreds of kilometres away from their home, Kelly Zhang's parents have finally seen her killer jailed. Joon Tan, a 38-year-old carpenter from Malaysia, is now serving his sentence of 28 years for murdering the young mum in Melbourne's north. In February 2021, Tan stabbed Zhang six times in her Epping bedroom, her eight-year-old son was in the next room. But Tan told the boy and police that the 33-year-old had simply walked out.
