After a massive budget shakeup at the University of Nevada, Reno and rising costs nationwide, students buying parking passes for this academic year had to pay 3% more for their parking pass than last year — a price hike between $2 and $23. Because parking at the University is zoned, the most expensive passes will see the biggest rise. It’ll be most noticeable for students buying a “yellow” zoned permit to park their cars overnight near the resident halls.

With strong local theater companies and a school that keeps beating the odds to put on great shows, Reno regularly punches above its weight in the performing arts. That’s set to continue this fall with a slate of fresh productions, of which you have to see at least one: The University of Nevada, Reno’s own Department of Theater and Dance has two can’t-miss shows coming this November.

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada, Reno’s first senate meeting of the semester saw much debate over small details on Aug. 30. The senate is made up of elected student representatives apportioned from each of UNR’s colleges, and meets weekly on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.A Resignation, Reassignments and Open SeatsAt the top of the meeting, Aween Ali, the speaker of the senate, announced the resignation of Carson Fish, senator for the College of Business.

The Mackay Muckers, one of University of Nevada, Reno’s best and most unknown sports teams, is set for a world championship in Montana from March 20 to 25.
