Young fans turned out in force to snag autographs from the likes of Sarah Healy, Sharlene Mawdsley, Cathal Doyle and Sean Tobin.

MSD 4 MILEThe very popular MSD 4 Mile was held on St Stephens Day in Clonmel. It was a very competitive field of runners. We had 12 athletes running. First home for the club was 36th Dymphna Ryan 22:56.

England Athletics Walk Championships. Sheffield. Michael Doyle will make his debut at the England Athletics Walk Championships in Sheffield next weekend, Michael is part of an Irish juvenile contingent travelling over to this event. by Perri WilliamsThere was an abundance of records broken this morning at Valencia in a 10km event that has been dubbed the “world’s fastest 10k”. Sweden’s Andreas Almgren won the event in 26:53 breaking the European record and becoming the first European to break 27 minutes for the distance. Ireland’s interest lay in Eifrem Gidey who surpassed John Treacy’s 40-year-old national record by three seconds to record a new Irish record of 27:43 and bag 20th place.

World Athletics comes to Pink Rock. Athletes from all over the world will be coming again in 2025 While there was a false start for the athletics season at the weekend, with the postponement of first round of the National League at the weekend, there promises to be plenty of time for local athletes to catch up across 2025.

2024 was a great year for Carlow Athletics. Aaron Shorten competed at the Paris Paralympics, the St Laurence O’Toole ladies competed with Ireland’s elite clubs at the premier division of the National Track and Field league after a gap of almost two decades. There were international vests for Jack Keating, Jamie Hyland, Cassie O’Byrne, Kara Morrissey and Darragh Corcoran along with a host of Leinster and National medals for several athletes.

by Richard HawkinsAs the year draws to a close there was still plenty of action on road and off-road with lots of our athletes putting in excellent performances. The final races of the Munster cross-country took place in Ennis on Sunday 8th. The Walsh family made the trip west for the Juvenile ‘B’ competition with the lads running very well. Aidan and Liam finished in 48th and 55th places respectively in a competitive U11 race.

The big focus last weekend was on the European Cross Country which took place in Anatalya, Turkey. For most, it was the season climax, a cumulation of the training and racing over the preceding months. For the first time in many years, Kildare was without representation.

Kilkenny Medieval Mile. As storm Darragh battered parts of the country a number of our brave road runners made their way to Kilkenny city to take part in the annual Medieval Mile organised by Kilkenny City Harriers. The course was fast and on the main flat. Athletes started at the Kilkenny Army barracks and made their way through Wolfe Tone Street, into Irishtown and onto High Street before finishing with a climb at the Parade adjacent to Kilkenny Castle.
