    Speira’s emissions targets, including net-zero by 2045, have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). The targets also include the short-term aim of a 51.2% reduction in scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Head of Sustainability at the aluminium rolling and recycling company, Dorothea Flockert, said: “Overall, Speira commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2045.

    The proposed inclusion of alumina and aluminium scrap in the EU’s CBAM regulation is flawed, states the European Aluminium association. It has commissioned a study which warns the inclusion of the two materials will negatively impact the European market. Both materials are currently excluded from CBAM. The study claims a major flaw is the incentive to over-declare scrap content in products to avoid paying carbon fees at the border.
