It has long been a characteristic of human societies that oppressed classes end up pitted against each other, as though one is the cause of the other’s oppression. In America, certainly, we’ve seen it in ethnic and racial tension, and more recently in issues of gender identity and expression. When it comes to the matter of improved access to the Forest Preserve for those with disabilities, let’s not let it happen here in the Adirondacks.

Farming in southwest Kansas isn’t for the faint of heart. Producing a crop in an arid climate can be a challenge, but this year, Luke Jaeger is thankful for some much needed rain. “It was the wettest November on record for us in some areas of the farm, which is crazy this time of year.” says Jaeger, a farmer in Minneola, Kan. For an area that typically receives less than 20" of rain each year, Jaeger says some of his farms have seen 6" of rain during the month of November alone.

If we are lucky, getting older will happen. Life moves fast. As a 60-year-old man, I am beginning to experience life changes happen as I get older. My body is not the same. The world around me seems to move fast and there are so many changes to, well, everything. My friends and family are getting older, and I have lost many dear to me. Time flies and frankly, the future often troubles me. Then I remembered, I am a senior center director.

My wife and I have an inholding deep in the High Peaks, the northern border of which lies along an historic survey line. Part of the Old Military Tract, it was first surveyed by John Richards in 1812, then remained untouched until 1921, when surveyor A.H. King reran the line, finding some of Richard’s own marks and “boxing” them for identification. I’ve bushwhacked part of the line, but not the part where these old survey marks might yet be discovered.
