    Eight Scottish players have been named in the British and Irish Lions squad for their upcoming tour of Australia. Head coach Andy Farrell announced his selection for the fixtures, to be played between June 20 and August 2, in front of a live audience at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday. The Scotland internationals included are Blair Kinghorn, Huw Jones, Sione Tuipulotu, Scott Cummings, Zander Fagerson, Pierre Schoeman, Finn Russell, and Duhan van der Merwe.

    A video of the dramatic rescue of two people in chest-deep water has been released to warn of the dangers of travelling to Cramond Causeway. RNLI Queensferry released the video showing their call-out to two people in difficulty on on April 1. The pair got into difficulty after becoming stuck when a path to Cramond Island was submerged by the tide, and they tried to wade through the rising water.

    A “democratic majority” of pro-independence MSPs following the next Scottish Parliament election should result in another referendum on the constitutional question, John Swinney has said. The SNP leader set out his views on the way forward for Scottish independence as he gathered his team of constituency candidates for next year’s Holyrood election. With a year to go until Scots go to the polls, Swinney said he wanted to “bring Scotland together” at a party event in Edinburgh.

    A Marks and Spencer store that has been in Aberdeen city centre for 81 years has closed its doors for the final time. The shop on St Nicholas Street, which opened over eight decades ago, was closed for good ahead of schedule on Saturday. Customers are now being redirected to the company’s newly upgraded store just over a mile away on Union Square. M&S had earlier said that the St Nicholas Street branch would remain open until later in the summer.

    The Scottish Professional Football League is considering plans to cut the number of games required to decide who gets promoted from the Championship to the Premiership. In the current system, the teams that finish second, third, and fourth in the second tier take part in play-off alongside the club that ends the season second bottom of the top flight.
