BBC journalists and crew were held at gunpoint, tied up and strip-searched by the Israeli Defence Forces in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, one of the broadcaster’s journalists has claimed. The team of seven, which included Feras Kilani, BBC Arabic’s special correspondent, two Iraqi BBC staff, three Syrian freelancers and one BBC cameraman, were stopped while filming at a checkpoint in the city of Quneitra, inside a buffer zone between Israel and Syria, the BBC said.

Bethan James, daughter of the former England cricket star Steve James, may have survived if doctors had given her the correct treatment for sepsis, an inquest has been told. James, 21, died a day after she was admitted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in February 2020, where nurses said there was no bed for her, Pontypridd coroner’s court heard. An ambulance was called to her home when she fell ill while her father, a journalist, was covering a Six Nations rugby match in Dublin.

HM Revenue & Customs lost £47 million to an “organised crime” phishing breach of tax accounts in a fraud incident that has led to arrests, the Treasury committee has been told. Two senior civil servants from HMRC told MPs that 100,000 people have been contacted, or are in the process of being contacted, after their PAYE accounts were locked down after the incident, which started last year.
