By Peter ChivhimaA Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer, Donald Madzinga, has appeared in court on allegations of accepting a bribe and facilitating the escape of fugitive Luke Zinyengerere. Madzinga, aged 39, was remanded in custody pending his bail application. According to the prosecution, Madzinga conspired with inmates Tafadzwa Richard Marondera and Zinyengerere, allegedly agreeing to smuggle a firearm into prison facilities in exchange for US$700 to assist their escape.

Story by Peter ChivhimaA large-scale manhunt is underway for armed robbery suspect Luke Zinyengerere, who staged a dramatic escape from custody at the Harare Magistrates Court this Friday. Zinyengerere, along with his co-accused Tafadzwa Marondera, had been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Quest Financial Services in Belgravia, Harare. The heist resulted in the theft of US$720 676, ZAR 10 500, and €120 in cash, as well as a 7.65mm CZ Vzor pistol and three laptops.
