    “I think it’s very important to have debates,” former president Donald Trump said at a Mar-a-Lago press conference Thursday afternoon, confirming his agreement to three debates against Kamala Harris throughout September on Fox, ABC and NBC. The Harris campaign has only confirmed the ABC debate on September 10, which will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis.

    In an era of declining trust, the military retains widespread public confidence — 61 percent as of a Gallup poll this year. Large majorities of Americans look up to those who wore the uniform and associate serving in the military with positive stereotypes like self-discipline, loyalty and responsibility. Politicians and our political system? Not so much. Only 26 percent of Americans have confidence in the presidency, and confidence in Congress stands at 9 percent.

    We're spiraling down towards banana republic status with each passing day. As a kid, I traveled often to Brazil where my family is from. I have witnessed throughout my life the steady, implacable reduction in the gap between the US and Brazil in all the wrong ways. Whether in the realm of law, economics, politics, quality of life metrics, education, or health; It's all going downhill. Forget technology.

    For years, we’ve been told that Donald Trump is a worse-than-Hitler threat to democracy and that those who opposed him—leading Democrats, the courts, Noam Chomsky, Michael Avenatti, Rachel Maddow, the hosts of The View, even old Twitter—were just trying to protect it. It’s odd then to now be told that the best way to save democracy is by banning Trump from the ballot.
