MERRICK COUNTY, Neb. – One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash in rural Merrick County. According to the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal accident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 92 and 2nd Road in Merrick County. Officials say the initial investigation revealed that two vehicles were driving southbound on 2nd Road and both failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 92.

HASTINGS, Neb. - Fire and rescue teams responded to an accidental structure fire Monday around noon in South Hastings. According to fire officials the blaze was deemed accidental and started when cardboard boxes were left on an electric stovetop in the kitchen. The residents were in the process of moving in at 521 S. Boston Ave. and were not home at the time. A male resident returned to find the home filled with smoke and attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - The Nebraska State Patrol is announcing that two Lexington residents were killed on I-80 after crossing the median and hitting a semi head-on. Around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, a Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling west on I-80 near mile marker 310, when it lost control, crossed the median, and struck a semi traveling East. Both occupants of the Chevrolet, Emelin Ortega Rodas, 25, and Daniel Ortega Marroquin, 62, both of Lexington, were pronounced dead at the scene.
