Like so many aspiring filmmakers before them, the fraternal New Zealander duo of Danny and Michael Philippou elected to make their feature debut with a low-budget horror film that would serve as a sort of calling card for their talents—in their case, a story about a group of teens who are able to conjure up spirits with the help of a mummified hand and one discovering too late that this was perhaps not the smartest of ideas.
