What brings you to BCO Conference/What do you hope to achieve? The BCO conference is one of my favourite events of the year. It is a chance to catch up with many people who I have got to know through the BCO over the years and meet some new people too. I am also very interested in what will be said on stage and in visiting buildings in a city I haven’t been to before. I hope to gain fresh ideas to bring back to my day job in my role as Workplace Sector Lead at Cundall.

What brings you to BCO Conference/What do you hope to achieve? Lots of networking and meeting new contacts. In previous conferences the tours can show up little gems of ideas that can be borrowed and the debates across the seminars can be fascinating as common issues and issues of the future, as well as practical solutions are discussed and shared by the amazing talent within the BCO’s membership. What are you working on at the moment?

You started out as a QS. How is the profession adapting to the focus on whole life carbon and wellbeing, and the way we measure value? I’d say the core QS perspective is about costing the various carbon initiatives – the specific measures you can implement, for example the reuse of steel. A lot of them are getting involved in carbon measurement, especially around upfront embodied carbon, but so are lots of others: engineers are getting involved, sustainability consultants are getting involved.

What brings you to BCO Conference? I come every year. It’s better than Mipim. It’s a much more focused and concentrated sector of the market that I’m particularly interested in, all present under one roof. You see the people you want to see, in an environment where they’re relaxed. It’s a place to have a grown-up conversation. Because everyone’s on the same track; we’re all working towards a common goal. What’s the goal?
