    By Peter Stephenson A cloudy, humid Kennel was the scene on Saturday for Barkers’ first home league game of the State 2SE season. Having beaten North Caulfield 2-1 last week, they anticipated a sterner test today, as they faced Peninsula Strikers, a side that had beaten them in their last 4 meetings, scoring 16 goals in the process. Barkers made one enforced change to last week’s side, with James Barber replacing the injured Aaron Porcaro, and Caleb Haberle set to debut from the bench.

    By Peter Stephenson Barkerettes mounted a stunning comeback on Saturday to finally overcome State 4 West’s North Sunshine Eagles, in a thrilling Nike FC Cup tie at a sun-drenched Kennel. Kelly Butera was suspended, and with Emily Stokes and Rebecca Brown also out, Barkerettes were wary of the potential for a shock exit against lower league opposition. Barkers began well and dominated NSE.

    By Peter Stephenson A mild sunny Kennel was the scene for Barkers’ first competitive outing of 2025, as they hosted Point Cook (PC) in the second round of the Australia Cup. The dawn of a new season was also that of a new era, as Barkers reappointed Dave Stack as coach following his stint in 2007. On the field, a number of departures to Ringwood City, plus three suspended players, meant that it was a relatively young side that took the field.

    By Peter Stephenson Barkers (ninth) travelled to a blustery Victory Park to face Cobras (fifth). The omens weren’t good. Barkers had never so much as drawn with Cobras, had not won for seven games, and Chris Potter was the latest in a long line of suspended players. Barkers made three changes to the side which lost 1-2 to Berwick, with Ben Cooper, Potter and Maxim Solovyev making way for Max Burrows, Geordie Scott and Ryan Smith.
