Garstang continued their unbeaten start to the Northern League Division One season, beating Blackpool at The Riverside. They made it two wins out of two in the new top flight with a 42-run victory to sit third in the fledgling table. Garstang posted 190-9 after being put in to bat and looked on course for a greater total at 163-4. Ali Usman restored some control for the visitors with 5-46 as Sumit Ruiker top-scored with 42.

In the Palace Shield Premier Division, Eccleston were victorious at Morecambe after electing to bat first. The visitors won by 46 runs after reaching 253 for seven in their 45 overs. Adam Norris (71) and Jadeja Edwards (74) were their big hitters, while Thomas Foster’s 48 was also crucial. In reply, Morecambe were all out for 207, Alex Briggs’ 84 raising the hosts’ hopes of overtaking Eccleston’s total, until Cameron Smith (4-35) made the most significant inroads.

Euxton got off the mark with their first victory of the Northern League Division Two campaign, winners by 29 runs at Vernon Carus on Saturday. The visitors elected to bat, and made 257 for three in their 50 overs. James Bone’s 86 not out was the stand-out in Euxton’s innings, ably supported by Josh Tolley’s 66 and 37 not out from Ben Houghton.

Penwortham Cricket Club have unveiled plans to redevelop facilities at Middleforth Green, which has been their home since 1892. The club announced their plans this week via their social media channels, looking to seek support for Phase 1. That involves raising £85,000 and Penwortham have set up a CrowdFunder focused on reaching an initial target of £30,000. Vision project lead Edward Duckworth has written to the community to outline the plans was the benefits they can have for the area.

Lancashire have parted company with men’s head coach Dale Benkenstein and placed Steven Croft in interim charge. Benkenstein has left his position by mutual consent, paying the price for a dire run of form for the Red Rose. The club were relegated from Division One of the County Championship last season and have continued their slump in the second tier, sitting second-bottom as the only one of the 18 first-class counties without a win after seven rounds.
