Vehicle thefts by state Vehicle thefts are on the rise, and some models might be more vulnerable to being stolen. More than 1 million vehicles were stolen in 2022—a 7% increase from 2021, according to a National Insurance Crime Bureau analysis. The near-record year followed an 8% rise in passenger vehicle thefts from 2020 to 2021. Nationally, about 1 in 4 passenger vehicles reported stolen were full-size pickup trucks.
