    Ada Little, in a surprise to no one, was named the 11th Region player of the year recently. Little, the ace for the state semifinalist Scott County Cardinals, pitched a stellar senior campaign. Little threw 14 shutouts on the season, including six straight to start the year, and battled through soreness at the end of the season to help lead the Cardinals to two wins short of a fourth state title.

    Three local high school teams competed at the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Summer Shootout this weekend. The event featured over 100 teams from across the state and outside the state, and was hosted at Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, Scott County, Great Crossing, and Woodford County gyms. Both the Great Crossing boys and girls competed at the event, as well as the Scott County boys. The Scott County girls’ team competed in the Transylvania team camp in Lexington.

    Talent-rich Great Crossing softball has their next head coach. The school announced the hiring of Donald Murphy on Tuesday. Murphy replaces Heath Sutton, who resigned after the 2025 season. Murphy has lived in Scott County since 2017, and has coached at spencer County and Frederick Douglass. Murphy has served as the head coach at Male High School in Louisville since 2023. At Male, Murphy ran a 62-28 record in the 7th Region.

    Scott County softball did not go down without a fight against Henderson County on Friday. With a spot in the title game on the line, the Cardinals fought to their last out, but came up just short in a season ending 11-8 loss. After Henderson County scored five runs in a rough first inning, the Cardinals were playing catch up the rest of the way, and a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning came up short. “I kept waiting for us to do that earlier,” Cardinals coach Mike Wagoner said.

    WINCHESTER – The Lady Warhawks basketball team split their first two summer ball games at George Rogers Clark last week. The Lady Warhawks had a slightly different look from last season, and a former teammate returning. Maya Custard led the Warhawks in scoring against Scott High School in a narrow loss. Custard, going into her junior year, played for Scott County High School in her sophomore year and with GC in her freshman year.
