Tennessee softball will finish the regular season a day early. The Lady Vols will play a doubleheader against Texas A&M on May 2 at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The first game starts a 2 p.m. ET. The second game is scheduled for 5 p.m. or 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. It was a pitcher's duel in the series opener until a critical error by the No. 5 Lady Vols (39-12, 14-8 SEC) in the seventh inning against the No. 2 Aggies (42-8, 15-6) in a 1-0 loss.

Steve Kiner, a former All-American linebacker at Tennessee and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, died on April 24. He was 77. Kiner's career with the Volunteers began in 1967 as he joined the program as a sophomore after Florida revoked his scholarship offer. Under coach Doug Dickey, Kiner became an immediate impact player, earning SEC Sophomore of the Year.

It was a night of firsts. And it was second to none. The Knoxville Smokies played its first game at Covenant Health Park on April 15 against the Chattanooga Lookouts in front an announced crowd of 6,451 filling up the facility. The final score was a thrilling 5-4 victory in favor of the Smokies, the Class AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Knoxville has a long and rich baseball history with teams dating back to the 19th century.
