There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. Her medals, fame and fortune won — presumably fairly — Simone Biles now has an international forum to advocate for unfair play, aka cheating. Biles last week publicly trash-tweeted unabashed fair-play advocate Riley Gaines for her front-and-center activism to rid girls and women’s sports of former males increasingly competing as women in winning formerly level-fielded competitions.

Forgive this self-indulgence, but after 20 years of trying to figure out what the heck is happening — and happened — to big league baseball, I arrived at a conclusion. Happened Tuesday. The Mets’ Jeff McNeil singled in the automatic runner — a pinch runner for the automatic runner, no less — who was automatically placed on second to give the Mets a win based on artificial additives, another reality-deprived, Rob Manfred Era “innovation” to create artificial excitement.

Seems every MLB telecast now comes with a dare: How many extraneous, superfluous and mindless artificial additives can we endure before we tap out? How much empty yak and phony belly laughs from the booth can we indulge? How many distracting interviews, misapplied and mindless stats? How many gambling come-ons or “first 18,000 guests” promos? How much more bad baseball can be witnessed but left unspoken by paid TV experts?

Did you catch this past Friday night’s Yanks-Dodgers? It appeared exclusively on Apple TV+. Or was it Fubo, Roku, Hulu, Boo-Hoo or Bird-Flu? Amazon Prime, YouTube, U-Boob? The Gotham App? Or was it on the FanFool Parlay network? Or might it have been on NBC’s Peacock streaming operation, thus we missed another of what Mike Tirico barks as our chance “to be part of TV history!”? I missed it. I tried to find it but then quit.
