Retiring rowing coach has club boat named after him

Simon Hall, 69, has been mentoring the boys’ J14 squad for almost 20 years but has now decided to step back from full-time coaching. The club honoured him by naming a new coxless four, the principal boat of the squad, after him. Mr Hall, who lives in Recreation Road, Wargrave, with wife Margaret, the club’s secretary, said: “I did get a bit emotional when I saw the boat.

Another "boy racer" car meet took place on Sunday night in the Tesco car park in Reading Road. Groups of young people gathered, most arriving in their cars, to watch drivers perform tricks such as "doughnuts" in a circle. For the full story, pick up your copy of the Henley Standard on Friday.
Henley river protest for cleaner waters

Campaigners protested for cleaner river health in Henley last Friday. The event at the Friday Street slipway was organised by the Henley Mermaids open water swimming group and the Henley and Marlow River Action Group. People from groups including Ocean Rebellion, River Action UK, Project Planet Earth and Thames21 also came for a swim, performance, music and speeches. They criticised Thames Water for contributing to river pollution through dumping treated and untreated sewage into it.
Henley Big Sing

ABOUT 300 people came together to sing and dance in Henley town hall on Saturday. They attended the Henley Big Sing, a free event organised by the Henley Choral Society to celebrate its 50th anniversary. About 200 adults and children over the age of 12 attended in the morning and 80 younger children came with their parents and guardians in the afternoon.
