Continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, therapy can improve the lives of people with obstructive sleep apnea, but nearly half of adults with CPAP machines fail to adhere to a regular regimen of CPAP use. A new University of Arizona Health Sciences study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that peer support improved CPAP adherence and patient satisfaction, which can improve sleep and overall health.

Construction is underway on the new building that will house the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies, or CAMI, on the Phoenix Bioscience Core in downtown Phoenix. CAMI will anchor an innovation district that aims to establish the Phoenix Bioscience Core as a hub of cell and gene therapy research, startup activity and corporate engagement.

A University of Arizona College of Nursing-led research team will use a $1.9 million Department of Health and Human Services grant to lead a nationwide effort to keep babies safe from the deadly threat of necrotizing enterocolitis, known as NEC. According to the NEC Society, more than 3,500 babies are diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis in the United States each year, and at least one baby dies from NEC every day.
