In the only bowl game featuring two conference champions, the Ohio Bobcats win the 2024 Cure Bowl 30-27 over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. The win gives the Bobcats an 11-win season and the first win for newly named head coach Brian Smith. The Gamecocks end the season with a 9-5 record with the loss in Orlando, Florida. The Bobcats had to hold on to victory after taking a 27-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It will also be a game featuring teams with interim head coaches. Despite being without some top offensive performers, South Alabama won the 2024 Salute to Veterans Bowl 30-23 against Western Michigan. The Jaguars were without quarterback Gio Lopez (injury), running back Fluff Bothwell (transfer portal), and wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett (opt-out). Jeremiah Webb stepped up in a big way by catching six passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. After a slow start, the South Alabama defense played well limiting the Broncos’ rushing attack to just 121 yards.

When the season ended with the 28-14 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn knew they needed to continue to add talent. The South Alabama Jaguars will be playing close to home with the game at the legendary Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The Western Michigan Broncos will be making a long trip from the north. This will be the 11th installment of the bowl game, but the first under the new name. All previous games were known as the Camellia Bowl. The Sun Belt has had a representative nine times, going 5-4.

The key for Auburn was to play mostly a clean game, and the offense to look efficient. Head coach Hugh Freeze and staff are sure to be pleased because that is exactly what the Tigers did. Quarterback Payton Thorne played a good game throwing for 322 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 49 yards and another score.

The Auburn Tigers begin their 2024 season this Saturday when they host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game is at 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN+. After going 6-7 in the first season under Hugh Freeze there are questions around this team. The Tigers will look different on offense after an overhaul of the wide receiver room that needed more talent. Defensively, Freeze added more talent on the defensive line, but the secondary comes in lacking experience.
