    I grew up on the family farm in Yorkshire, where I still live, so I’ve been aware that the weather is in charge and soil is important for as long as I can remember. My mum loved flowers and got me gardening by making a game of it. Growing cut flowers as a business happened by accident. In 2009, a friend asked if I could grow some for her wedding. Back then it wasn’t usual to have homegrown flowers at a wedding but I was game to help.

    I grew up among the mountains and fells of the Lake District, where being bored on the weekend meant you got taken up a mountain for some cheese sandwiches! Our parents were serial renovators of old farms so in the holidays I filled skips and made lawns for pocket money. By 12, neighbours were asking me to help in their gardens. I asked for a mini greenhouse for my thirteenth birthday and started propagating plants.
