A 35-year-old man has been jailed for 10 years for sexual offences and assault following an attack on a woman in Woodhouse. On 12 April 2024, Simon Lomas from Wybourn House Road subjected a woman to a ‘horrific attack’, for a quarter of an hour, during which he sexually assaulted, raped, and physically assaulted her. They are the first surviving examples of 17th-century defensive stakes, used to protect the castle from attack. They are around 1m in length and have now been and excavated from the moat and examined.
