    Christchurch Police have charged two people after discovering an incomplete pipe bomb during a search warrant execution yesterday. Police were searching a Grimseys Rd address in Redwood about 4pm on Tuesday when they located a suspicious object. Cordons were lifted about 7pm, once Police established it did not pose a threat.

    Anzac Day’s weather will be a mixture of conditions across the country, with heavy rain to hit the West Coast of the South Island, contrasted by calmer drier conditions in the North Island. MetService meteorologist Dan Corrigan said the North Island will have very settled conditions on Wednesday which will continue into Thursday, despite some increased cloud coming from a front, which is expected to work its way up the West Coast of the South Island.

A police spokesperson said they were notified at 7pm on Monday that a person was missing from a boat on the Waitaki River. The Waitaki River is a large braided river in the South Island. It drains the Mackenzie Basin and runs 209km southeast to enter the Pacific Ocean between Timaru and Ōamaru on the east coast.

    Prisoners at Rolleston Prison in the southwest of Christchurch spent the day in lockdown after an inmate scaled the roof. Corrections staff responded immediately when a prisoner climbed onto the roof of a single-storey, low-security unit about 7am on Thursday. Rolleston Prison’s acting general manager Russell Watkins, said the prisoner got onto the roof “by using a handrail to gain elevation”.
