Lufthansa Technik will build a new facility in northern Portugal to expand its capacities for the repair of engine parts and components. The Hamburg-based company, which is the engineering unit of the German airline group, said on 9 December that the new 54,000sq m plant in Santa Maria da Feira, near Porto, will be completed by the end of 2027.

Volocopter has named former Lilium finance chief Oliver Vogelgesang as its new CFO, effective immediately. Vogelgesang succeeds Christian Bauer in the role at the Bruchsal-based electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) developer. Bauer will remain the company’s chief commercial officer, Volocopter says.

LATAM Airlines Group profit during the third quarter of 2024 rose to $301 million as the company managed to hold costs in check and profited from greater demand for air travel. The Santiago, Chile-based carrier says that adjusted for foreign exchange and other gains, profit came in at $339 million, up 25% from the same three months last year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortization and restructuring (EBITDAR) increased 14% to $828 million.

This is truly tragic. I watched so many of his safety analysis videos and saw him speak in Oshkosh.

We are very saddened to report that Richard McSpadden, AOPA Senior Vice President, died in an aircraft accident outside Lake Placid, New York, on Sunday afternoon. Our thoughts are with Richard’s family at this time. We will provide more details as they are available.
