The awards honour the unsung heroes of Merton Nominations for the Merton Community Awards 2016 are now open. The awards, previously known as the Merton Civic Awards, recognise the unsung heroes in the community, from volunteers to teachers to businesses, to people who have beaten adversity in their own lives. Last year’s winners included university lecturer Paul Kohler, who made national headlines in August 2014 when he was brutally attacked by four men in his Wimbledon home.

Mansoor Ahmad has been nominated for a Merton Community Award An accountant of an Islamic awareness charity has been nominated for the Merton Community Award following decades of involvement with the borough. Bangladeshi-born Mansoor Ahmad, who lives in Coniston Close, Raynes Park, has been involved with various schools and communities since he migrated to the U.K. in 2007, writes Luke Tinniswood.

The supermarket giant said an overnight software update was to blame and that the problems have since been resolved. Contactless payments were affected for a while, but are now in use.

Customers reported deliveries not arriving on Saturday morningSainsbury's says it will not be able to fulfil the "vast majority" of online deliveries on Saturday because of "technical issues". Some stores are having issues with contactless payments, and others are only accepting cash as chip and pin is not working. Sainsbury's apologised and said it was caused by an overnight software update. Tesco said technical issues had forced it to cancel some deliveries due on Saturday. It has also apologised.
