The input offset voltage (VOS) of an operational amplifier (op amp) is modeled as a DC error source that acts like a voltage source on the noninverting input. It can introduce significant errors for circuits in high gain with small input signals. Figure 1 illustrates an op amp in a gain of 100 V/V with a 45-mV input signal and a 1-mV VOS. The offset signal directly adds to the input signal to introduce a 2.22% error.
