After a heated exchange recently unfolded with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan taking issue with remarks made by Tamil actor Karthi regarding the iconic Tirupati laddu, the former ended the tension amicably by issuing a statement. The Delhi Assembly membership of Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar was terminated by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel under the anti-defection law, officials said on Tuesday. Tanwar, who was elected on an AAP ticket from the Chhatarpur constituency in the 2020 Assembly elections, quit the party and joined the BJP in July this year along with another MLA Raaj Kumar Anand.

Sri Lanka’s newly elected leftist President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has dissolved parliament and called for a snap election, set for 14 November, almost a year ahead of schedule. The announcement was made via an official government gazette on Tuesday. This decision comes as Dissanayake’s People’s Liberation Front (JVP) holds only three seats in the 225-member parliament. He has called for the new assembly to convene for its first session on November 21.
