    Novo Asian Food Hall, a long-planned addition to the Strip District’s already robust roster of dining options, has an opening date. And foodies, it’s soon. Friday sees the soft opening of the seven-restaurant concept, which also includes a central bar serving an array of Asian spirits, including sake and whiskey, said Novo founder and Mola owner Alex Tang. The project was first announced in March 2022, led by Tang with early consulting from Mike Chen of Everyday Noodles.

    The World Health Organization on Tuesday declared coronavirus subvariant JN.1 a variant of interest “due to its rapidly increasing spread.”It made up about 3% of all coronavirus cases in early November, but 27.1% a month later globally, the WHO said. It anticipates JN.1’s emergence may cause an increase in cases, especially in countries experiencing winter.

    Last year’s “tripledemic,” that collision of COVID-19, influenza and RSV, peaked the week of Dec. 3 with 235,850 cases reported across the country. The holiday season timing of that spike was perhaps no surprise with celebrants in enclosed spaces like airplanes and dining rooms talking, hugging, laughing — and spreading respiratory droplets.

    Fuel specifically targeted toward runners isn’t cheap, with protein gel packs starting at around $1.50 a pop. Heinz has a solution: Just jog by a restaurant with ketchup packets (Heinz brand, naturally), and grab some fuel. That’s the sentiment of a new “Run on Heinz” promotion from the Pittsburgh-born company, which boasts, “Runners everywhere are using Heinz ketchup packets on their runs.”While the Steel City is full of runners — not to mention Heinz ketchup enthusiasts — we have questions.

    For those of us who didn’t grow up within an easy commute to Lower Manhattan, reading “Sonic Life” might just evoke jealousy. If you’re a fan of the music a young Thurston Moore was — punk as it morphed into post-punk, no wave, hardcore and on — well, those feelings will be extra intense. Among the first concerts he went to (mine was Rick Springfield at the Civic Arena, just saying), Moore nabbed an up-close seat at legendary Max’s Kansas City for a bill including Cramps and Suicide.
