AbstractCell length has been used as a proxy for cell size in cell cycle modeling studies. A previous study, however, brought into question the validity of this assumption, noting that correlations between cell lengths can be different from those involving cell volume if cell width fluctuations are taken into account. If cell volume is regulated, data analysis involving cell lengths will lead to an incorrect inference of the cell size control mechanism.
