It is an extremely tragic aspect of the world today that amidst all the supposed progress of science and technology, amidst all the increase of billionaires and their wealth, the life of several hundred million people has been reduced to almost intolerable levels as they are distressed by the loss of near and dear ones suddenly in conflicts, and at the same time themselves suffer from injuries, disease, violent attacks, extreme hunger, deprivation and adverse weather conditions.

Geneva – As the war in Sudan reaches its 16th month, the disproportionate impact on women and girls persists and must be addressed. They are paying the highest price, facing displacement, unlawful detention, home confinement, hunger amid a looming famine, increased gender-based violence, and reduced access to essential services, including for sexual and reproductive needs, as direct consequences of the ongoing war.

Following 15 months of civil war in Sudan that’s displaced more than 10 million people and blocked the delivery of food to desperately hungry Sudanese, the United Nations Famine Review Committee said Thursday that famine now exists in a camp housing hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people in North Darfur. The Famine Review Committee (FRC) published a report “confirming U.N. agencies’ worst fears” about the arrival of a long-forewarned famine in the Zamzam camp.
