CLINICAL HIGHLIGHTSPhosphodiesterases regulate multiple physiological processes in the cardiovascular system, including cardiac and vessel contraction. Phosphodiesterases are critical components in the signalosomes that precisely control cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and endothelial cell function in physiological conditions. Many phosphodiesterases display increased expression and activities in a cell- and tissue-specific manner in pathogenesis.
