There's a lot more to an eastern Mediterranean cruise when you have the right itinerary and ship. I find the perfect balance of island pleasure and cultural immersion with historic poignancy while enjoying impeccable service, food and wine, amenities and accommodation onboard Explora Journeys' ultra-luxury ship EXPLORA I. My wife and I spend a leisurely two days in an uncrowded Mykonos and a languid day in Skiathos, before diving into the astonishing history of Macedonia and arriving in Istanbul.

The panicked zebra's hyper-extended hind quarters shoot above a thicket as I hear the retaliatory thump of hoof into the lioness and gasps from my safari companions.

One of Australia’s most remote coastal towns has been attracting intrepid travellers for a while. Quentin Long realised his dream of visiting and was surprised by what he found. I have been covering Esperance for 20 years. Every time I published the emblematic image of the kangaroos on the impossibly white sand of Lucky Bay with that ridiculously translucent blue-green water I was overwhelmed with itchy feet and desire.
