Despite South Africa’s progressive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) policies, a new doctoral study from the University of the Western Cape found that adolescents continue to face serious obstacles when trying to access contraception. From school governing bodies (SGBs) denying permission to distribute condoms, to public clinics with limited hours and seasonal contraceptive stock-outs, the research exposes how structural shortcomings undermine young people's health rights.

One of South Africa’s leading scholars on systematic theology and ethics has been rewarded for his years of research output with an A2-rating by the National Research Foundation (NRF). Prof Ernst Conradie, who has been at the university for 32 years, has focused his research on the intersection between ecotheology, systematic theology and ecumenical theology. Acting Dean of the Arts Faculty, Prof Sarojini Nadar, congratulated Prof Conradie on the recognition by the NRF.

Image: Supplied Since he can remember, Naeem Jack has been running around; now he hopes his boundless energy can propel him to success on the world stage as he aims to compete for South Africa at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. In March, Jack, who competes for the University of Western Cape Athletic Club, broke the South African men’s Under 20 record in the 110 metre hurdles, clocking in a time of 13,16 seconds.
