The Virginia Governor’s Cup Awards is the state’s most prestigious wine competition. In 2024, professional judges led by Virginia wine expert Frank Morgan sampled over 750 of the best Virginia wines from among the 300-plus wineries across the state. Judges use the 100-point scale used by Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, Wine & Spirits and many others to rate wines. This year, 79 wineries received a cumulative total of 138 Gold Medals.

The innovative Common Wealth Crush Co. in the newest resident of the renovated historic Virginia Metalcrafters factory. Open since early spring, the chic tasting room and custom crush facility is an urban showroom for some of Virginia’s most creative winemakers. Lee Campbell, a partner in the venture with Patrick Eagan and well-known Virginia winemakers Ben and Tim Jordan, is the head of tasting room operations.

Each year, oenophiles around the state eagerly await the results of the Virginia Governor’s Cup Awards—the state’s most prestigious wine competition. In 2023, professional judges sampled 614 of the best Virginia wines from among the 300-plus wineries across the state. Judges use the 100-point scale used by Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, Wine & Spirits and many others to rate wines. This year, 66 wineries received a cumulative total of 142 Gold Medals.
