IntroductionVaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) targeting the ancestral (Wuhan-Hu-1/2019) viral spike (S) protein has been broadly effective at limiting infection and severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) [1–6]. With respect to SARS-CoV-2 infection, both the humoral and cell-mediated arms of the adaptive response are important for achieving optimal control of COVID-19 [7].
