MERIDIAN — The longest day of baseball Owyhee has ever played was more than worth it. The Storm could not afford to slip up on day two of the 6A state baseball west qualifier play-in series. After losing to Eagle Friday night, Owyhee faced elimination in all three of its games the following day. And all three times, the Storm answered the call to keep their season alive. They pushed the series to game five, a win-or-go home scenario for both Owyhee and the Mustangs.

MIDDLETON — The new state baseball tournament from the IHSAA has set up a daunting task for those who lose their first game in tournament play hoping to reach the championship series. As the top seed and host of one of two West Qualifiers in the play-in series of the state tournament, Middleton needed just two wins this weekend to advance to the final round of the tournament. One down, one to go.

BOISE — After handing Owyhee its first loss of the season in the semifinals of the 6A District III tournament on Tuesday, Eagle carried that momentum into Thursday night’s championship game. All it took was one inning of hot hitting at the plate for the Mustangs to win their first district title in eight years. A four-spot in the top of the third inning pushed Eagle past Timberline 4-0 at Borah High School.

MERIDIAN — Cole Valley Christian has picked up right where they left off last season. The defending 2A state champions moved up to 4A this season under the IHSAA’s new classification system and it hasn’t slowed down the Chargers one bit. Cole Valley matched up with Weiser in the District III championship game Wednesday night. The two played each other twice towards the end of the regular season, splitting the games.

Two high school softball district champions will be decided Thursday night in the Treasure Valley. Both the 6A and 5A District III title games begin at 5 p.m., with the 6A game at Borah High School and the 5A game at Skyview High School. Appearing in the 6A District III championship is Eagle, who knocked off previously undefeated Owyhee in the semifinals Tuesday night. The Mustangs, the No. 4 seed in the bracket, held the Storm scoreless through the first six innings in an 8-2 win.
