The protesters in Islamabad were demanding Khan's release. The events escalated and turned violent when the protesters were in the final stretch leading to the so-called "red zone" of the capital city, Islamabad, where all major government buildings are located. Police and army rangers clashed with the protesters, using tear gas and rubber bullets.
