Six people have been arrested following a clash between pro-Palestinian protesters and a pro-Israeli rally in Melbourne’s CBD. It’s estimated about 7000 people attended the separate Nakba Sunday Rally, and a Never Again is Now Rally organised by the Christian Zionist group International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.

The famous cherry blossoms may be fading for another year but demand from Aussies wanting to visit Japan is brighter than ever. This year’s “sakura” season saw a surge in the number of Australians heading to the Land of the Rising Sun. The Japan National Tourism Organisation said there has been a 46 per cent jump in Australian visitors in the first quarter of 2024, compared with the same period in 2019.

A serial climate activist jailed after a bridge stunt caused traffic chaos in Melbourne will be released as she seeks to have a 21-day jail sentence overturned. Deanna “Violet” Coco, 33, appeared in the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon wearing a plain white T-shirt, where she was granted bail ahead of her appeal hearing next week.

Of all the criticisms one could make of the Premier & Treasurer from a policy perspective, this is a rather strange one … (& one could argue that the hours they must spend in traffic commuting bw home & Melbourne should give them some perspective on the city’s growing pains)

A deeply embarrassing day for a Vic Lib leadership team so uncertain about what it stands for that it not only allowed Andrews & a bunch of extremist activists to frame the debate, but turned their “if you say something we don’t like you’re a Nazi” rhetoric on one of their own.
