The Department of Fire and Emergency Services released the figures on the first day of winter — which is also Smoke Alarm Action Day — in a warning for property owners to install and regularly test smoke alarms. Tributes are flowing for e-scooter rider Kevin Sanders, who died after he was hit by a truck last week. The accident happened at 10.30pm on Wednesday at the intersection of Canning and Stirling highways in East Fremantle. Paramedics gave first aid but Mr Sanders died at the scene. Friend Michael Styles had been on a ride with the 31-year-old not long before the tragic accident and posted a video of the group riding through the streets.
