The government has reached a 12-year deal that will grant fishing access for EU boats into British waters, with ministers also having nailed down a reduction in checks on food exports to the bloc in return. Ministers also secured a deal to reduce sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) checks on plant and animal goods headed to the EU, also known as the long-awaited vet deal, that will “lower food prices and increase choice on supermarket shelves”, it said in a statement.

The press is leading with comments by US Vice-President JD Vance, who said there was a “good chance” a trade deal could be reached with the UK, as uncertainty persists in the wake of the Trump administration’s imposition of tariffs on most of its trading partners. Citing an interview on Monday with the UnHerd website, the Telegraph and the BBC report that a trade deal could be in the offing and that Vance appeared friendlier to the UK than its neighbours in the EU.

Harrods has offered alleged victims of sexual abuse by the store’s late former owner Mohamed Al Fayed up to £200,000 in damages or up to £385,000, reports the Financial Times and BBC. The cap was criticsied by the women’s representatives, the FT said. Multiple women who worked for Fayed, who died last year, have accused him of rape and sexual assault. Harrods published its compensation scheme on Monday and offered victims a year to apply.
