When the name of a Meriden 16-year-old was read at Francis T. Maloney High School’s graduation Tuesday, the crowd cheered — even though he was not there to hear it. Kevin and his father were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last week in Hartford after a scheduled immigration check-in, officials said. They're being detained in Texas. Pride Month has only just begun, but Connecticut has gotten an early start — with celebrations in Bethel, Wethersfield, Ridgefield and Easton by the end of the first day. Though two of the largest Pride events — in Hartford and New Haven — won’t happen until September, there are dozens of events across the state aligning with the international month of observance. For the first time this year, The Health Collective is organizing Hartford Pride. Kay Muñoz is their director of community engagement.

An effort to deepen economic ties between the State of Connecticut and the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico came together on Tuesday. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed into law a bill that would establish a 23-member trade commission between the state and Puerto Rico. “This is a long time in the making, and I believe that it was the collaborative effort. We worked very hard to make it a reality, and we’re excited that this is moving forward,” said Rep. Juan Candelaria, D-New Haven.
