CHESTERFIELD, S.C. (WBTV) - Several South Carolina counties say over the past few years they have seen fewer people respond to jury summons. County clerks say when people don’t show up for jury duty it impacts the entire judicial system. A murder trial in Chesterfield County that was set to start on Monday, April 14, was delayed due to a lack of potential jurors. The trial involved Emanuel Bedford, he’s the man accused of killing Deidre Reid, 41.

NEWLAND, N.C. (WBTV) - One Western North Carolina community broke ground Friday on a new housing development that will benefit families impacted by Hurricane Helene. Country music star Eric Church joined North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein and more community partners on Friday, April 11 to break ground on the new area that will be known as Blue Haven. The Avery County community development is expected be available to people and families impacted by the deadly 2024 storm.

LANCASTER, S.C. (WBTV) - Studies done under the show that economic stressors can have an impact on children. Leaders at the Lancaster County School District say they’ve seen students struggle with anxiety and depression. Lancaster County School’s Director of Student Services, Dr. Lindsey Marino, says students can be worried about things happening at home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Tax Season is almost over, and while some may not be expecting a tax return this year, those that are may be rethinking the way they will use those funds. As prices continue to rise, consumers are changing the way that they spend. WBTV spoke with people about how they would use a return in this economy. Some shared that they would save the money. “I have everything I need so I’m just gonna put it to savings for rainy days and stuff like that,” says Alvin Franco.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Like many other Kentucky counties Pike County has experienced severe flooding this weekend. The county declared a travel ban and has enacted a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.LEX 18 spoke with one woman, Brittany Rowe, who explains what the county has looked like.
