Special to the SentinelFriends, I am not here to make fun of vegans or veganism, but to ask a simple question: WHERE THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO GET VEGAN HALVA??? AND WHAT IS HALVA??? I JUST WANT TO MAKE BROWNIES!!!So, yes, with no one to blame but myself, I proposed a potluck for my supervisor, whom I adore and who is retiring and has eaten a vegan diet for many years.

Special to the SentinelThis is a story about how I inadvertently joined a romance book club and the irony of it happening because I apparently can’t read, but really it’s about making friends as an adult. Which is very hard. So, yes, I saw a flyer at the library for the “Romancing the Tropes” book club and, OK fine, in hindsight I see it’s fairly obvious that the book club explores different tropes within the romance genre.

Newly planted apple orchard on CU Boulder campus is a nexus of university and community partnerships and will be a living classroom for students and educators For now, they are twiggy little things, all spindly adolescent limbs that nevertheless hint at future harvests. Special to the SentinelYou know how some people get about fantasy football, obsessively studying scouting reports and team rosters like they’re trying to suss meaning from tea leaves? Turns out I’m that way about papal succession in the Catholic Church. For the record, I am not nor have I ever been Catholic, but while I mourn Pope Francis, who I thought was a wonderful man, I also leap on every tidbit of information leading up to the papal conclave beginning Wednesday in Vatican City.

Special to the SentinelRecently I had the opportunity (?) to help loved ones move, and I question my use of the word “opportunity” for the following reasons:1. Whether moving myself or helping someone else move, I generally reach a point of asking, “Wouldn’t it be easier to just squirt some kerosene, light a fire and walk away in slo-mo? New beginnings! A fresh start! No book boxes packed to the approximate density of a black hole!”2. Love, it turns out, is conditional in the middle of a move.
