Former Fort Wayne reporter Rachelle Graham learned about hers when she moved two hours south to the Summit City. Coworkers loved to point out her “Michigan nasally” vowels. Graham said he had to practice shedding pronunciations like “calendar,” “gallon” and “Allen” County for hours. It all may be for the best. The Michigan accent is changing, according to experts.

    Michigan family rebuilds after devastating fire (CBS DETROIT) - On March 13, 2023, AJ and Lindsay Rowe woke up at 3 a.m. to realize their Fenton home was filled with flames and smoke. The couple began the frantic search for six of their seven children who were home and called 911. Lindsay and her five daughters found one another and made it out onto the roof, but AJ was still searching for their 4-year-old son. "I'm going in. I gotta go in," you can hear Lindsay say on the 911 call.

    Smokestacks at Trenton Channel Power Plant to be demolished (CBS DETROIT) - Demolition of the Trenton Channel Power Plant will begin Friday, March 15. Two striped smokestacks, which are visible for miles, are scheduled to come down at 7 a.m."They're going to implode those. My understanding is that they will drop to the north," Trenton City Administrator Dean Creech said. The coal-fired DTE facility stopped being used in 2022 after serving the Downriver area for nearly 100 years.
